• [Ever After] The little mermaid and Snow White

I’m waaaaay behind with Ever After. I struggle with answering all the prompts (I’m in module 2) and struggle with copying. Yup that’s what we need to do first. We need to copy all the lessons, trying it ALL out so to speak and make notes on what we like and what we dislike. I like watching the video’s. I like the teachers. Their style. But I dislike copying and trying to make something my own which is not really my cup of tea. I know I’m stubborn (you probably know too, if you have read one of my latest blogposts) so I really do my best on following the lessons even if my soul screams: Nooo make it your own! It takes patience not to skip everything and goย straight to the last lesson in which you have to make something in your own style. (Thinking about that now, that scares me even more than copying!)

This piece is for the first lesson in Ever After. It’s called “The little mermaid” and I probably don’t need to tell you who’s the teacher. (Spoiler: Tamara Laporte, Duh!) It took me a while to get over the whole ‘not being good enough’- fear but there you go. Once I got started, it was easy to continue the work. Until I had to finish the background and the animals. It was as if I forgot everything I’ve learned so far and had to re-do it all over. What I liked most about this work? Her belly. Actually the whole torso with bikini. I wish I could frame this part of the painting and leave out the rest haha!

And this beautiful lady is Snow white. A lesson by Annie Hamman. I’ve started to follow Annie very recently. If I’m correct, the first video I saw of her was a collaboration piece with her daughter. (I looked it up and yes, week 4 ‘Fearless art” in Lifebook 2016) I had difficulties with making the same collage like Annieย so instead I used a different portrait picture. And somehow my own mixed black color, turned out kinda green? Not sure what I did wrong there but I was able to save her dress with black acrylics (no more color blending… I mean, what if she turned yellow?!) It has been years since I painted a portrait with acrylics. Since high school, maybe? It’s not perfect and my skills need lots of improving… but I guess patience is my priority here. Everything gets better with enough patience, right?

If you are blogging about Ever After, I would love to see your work. Drop your link below. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • My 2nd year in Fine Arts: Done!

Last month I finished my 2nd year in Fine Arts (Painting) in the local academy. I can’t remember when I finished my 1st year, 5 years ago? 6 years? Anyway, after many years I joined the academy again because I’m living much closer now…when I moved to this city, it was the first thing I did: Signing up for Fine Arts. Although all results are based on personal development, I’m pleased with all the A’s and a few B’s. After all it was such a long time ago since I used oil paint. Or even painted on canvas instead of art journals. Over here you can see the surreal houses I’ve made. These were part of the local exhibition last week. Most people in my class believe these are my best works over the year… for me personally, I’m not sure. There are a few others I wanted to share with you. First of all, this one:

Oil paint on unprepared canvas. I have no idea why my teacher thought it would be a great idea to experiment on unprepared canvas… it sucks, really! And I think most of the other painters who tried it out, agree to this. It took way to many layers to get it smooth. So yeah, this is the result. The colors look more vibrant in real life though. It does not really fit my year theme but I wanted to give it a try… it’s my boyfriend after all. ๐Ÿ™‚

In the urbex theme, I think this is my personal favorite. Because of the colors mostly. Some don’t agree, they prefer my other houses because they are more personal. That could be true… the previous houses were based on my own urbex photographs, while this one is not. Maybe I should combine these colors with my own urbex photographs next time? I wonder where that will take me.

Because it’s currently summer vacation, there are no academy lessons until September. To keep myself busy, I decided to continue Lifebook. Because of illness I wasn’t able to work on lessons for many months and when I finally got better, the academy had first priority. So, Lifebook it is. If you are interested, you can still sign up btw! And did you know you can download all the content and keep it forever? My computer is full with e-courses from previous years and it’s really nice to watch a lesson here and there… just to keep me inspired.

Oh and I also signed up for Ever After. Talking about taking much on my plate…. but I could not resist. I mean, style development! I’m not really a fairytale person but you know…getting out of my comfort zone could be a good thing. There are many more ecourses I wish to take but I think I’ll be busy enough with these 2. Are you following any ecourses? I would love to hear all about it.

(You know. Just in case I’ll get this crazy idea of signing up for more ecourses. I know I’m not the only one!)
